TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT AND NOT GETTING ANYWHERE

We all know that our bodies are extremely complex machines – I liken it to a Formula 1 racing car where the smallest thing that is out of synch can affect the running of the whole machine.

Nutrition is a fascinating subject. Do you believe me when I say that Nutrition is our most powerful drug? More powerful than most medications? Use it right for your body and unique system and it will work very well for you – just like putting the top grade of petrol and oil into your car. Use it incorrectly for your body and your unique system and it can cause untold harm!

Over the years, I have worked with many hundreds of people who have been trying to lose weight and don’t seem to be getting anywhere. When I have undertaken a Body Composition Analysis (using a Biodynamic machine), I have typically found that much of what these people thought was fat was actually retained water.

Getting rid of fat and getting rid of retained water require very different strategies.

The body has accumulated fat because the person has been eating too many carbs at the same time, or just carbs that are very high in sugar or starch. This pushes the blood sugar up, the body responds by producing insulin. Insulin is the “storage” hormone, so when it is switched on, the body stores more and more energy rather than using it. The more this goes on, the more insulin the body needs to produce (called insulin resistance) and the stronger the message therefore becomes to store energy. The only way to deal with this is to switch the insulin signal off by learning how to control blood sugar levels within a more constant and moderate range.

The body retains water because it has become toxic and acidity levels have increased. The only thing that the body has to try to neutralize acidity is alkaline in water. So, the body will push water into the more acidic areas to protect itself.

There are several factors about nutrition that cause increased toxicity, acidity and water retention:

• You may be suffering from food intolerance – when normally harmless or even healthy food substances are seen as poisons/toxins by your body
• Your nutrition may be out of balance, eating too many acid forming foods, and therefore affecting your finely balanced Ph Levels
• You may have in the past, or still are, eating foods that contain high levels of additives, preservatives, colourings, flavourings, etc, all of which accumulate and are very toxic to the body
• You may be eating high levels of highly processed and pre-prepared foods, many of which provide limited nutritional value to the body, and are effectively starving your systems of the essential nutrients that they need. As a result your detoxification systems are unable to do their work properly and your body accumulates toxins, and your body goes into starvation mode - it stores!

If any of these apply to you, then it requires a very different strategy from that adopted for losing fat. You need to remove or change the things that are causing the toxicity and acidity in the first place.
