Spain Health

Online Health & Wellness Network for People Living in Spain! Hola!

PAMELA DAWSON TASKER - L' ALFÀS DEL PI - JOURNALIST, cultural tour organiser, charity fund.raiser etc.....Age 65
In all areas there are health and fitness clubs, pilates classes, aerobics, many towns have exercise classes in the cultural centre (many for olderresidents) and gynasiums.
There are bowls clubs, golf clubs, cycling clubs and walking clubs.
Wherever you live on the CB walking is a pleasure, by the sea, on the hillsides, in the country and it costs nothing.
Personally I use a gymnasium with a fitness trainer on hand at all times and well maintained equipment.
I cannot see any reason why a resident of any age, even with limited mobility, should not make the effort to be as fit as their age and condition allows.

Sue Coley - Costa Blanca - Event Planning and Organising
I keep fit by- Gardening all year
Looking after/cleaning/ painting/maintenance large casita and land swimming in large pool in Summer (and sea)
Work- on feet for many hours when actually doing an event like a wedding or party. A lot of physical work involved with some events.
Who needs a gym?!

BEATRIZ VENTOSA - ALTEA - BUSINESS MANAGER (OR ANYTHING IT COMES IN MY WAY!)
For my fitness and exercise I dance (jazz & modern dance) twice a week for 1.5 hr.
1 swim once a week.
Weekends a try to do some activity outdoors.
Roslyn McFadden - Javea - Dental Nurse
I get my exercise by walking to work and to the driving school instead of getting lifts. I walk to my destination anytime it's feasible. Swimming is also a major aspect of my exercise regime. I don't do much else however!

David Mills * Altea * Reporter

Kevin Thornton, N.S.S.M.T. Phy, Therapist
Just to give you a brief outline of how I manage to get and say fit since moving to Spain, Usually i get up just before sun- up, Waking programme for 30 mins. with some stretching during the walk period , with some more stretching afterwards, I find that is the best way I can stay comfortable and fit, As the saying goes , IT TAKES ENERGY TO MAKE ENERGY, 3-4 times a week and I have lost almost a stone since starting 6 weeks ago.

michael carr-jones - Benajarafe Malaga (East) - Retired :-))
I don't get enough exercise, but I do jog in my pool and walk one km each way along the passeo.

Kathleen Misson - Moraira - Technical Editor
Running, swimming, cycling, dancing and yoga :-)

Linda Plummer - Alfaz del Pi - Webmistress of Top Tour of Spain
I live in Alfaz del Pi - near the Sierra Bernia English school - and I'm terrified of driving.
So, I get plenty of excercise - walking to the number 10 bus stop, to take me into Benidorm or the other way into Altea.
It's a good 20 minute walk each way.
At present, am taking driving lessons. So perhaps this exercise will finish if I pass my test and find the courage to drive?
But, there's still the dog who needs to be taken walks!

Millie Munro - Benitachell - Health and Pre Paid Funeral Agent
I go to the gym around the corner when I can fit it in, which is not nearly as much as I should. I am very shortly to start dance class with Sue Mace in Javea. However because of my work load I seem to drive everywhere and sit at my desk which is most unhealthy, but I do walk my dogs at the weekend and during the week sometimes.

Vera Schonberg, Javea, Hypnotherapist, Aroma therapist, Healer, Medium
Work out watching TV.

Sharon Hadley - Orihuela - Holistic Therapist/teacher
The truth is I DONT and I know it, I work as an holistic thearpist and find on coming home to tired, the heat drains me, and I'm over weight.....I don't have the money for gyms and tables, and at the weekend I just want to collapse. You know most of my friends are the same too. We have no motivation to Exercise it's like it's a dirty word. If you have any suggestions I'm listening.

STAY TUNED FOR NEXT MONTH'S QUESTION???

I just do DRU yoga, walk in the area of La Cumbre del Sol and watch the news on the home trainer. May I add that some 'bedroom gymnastics' enhance my feelings of fitness and wellbeing!!
